TRURO, N.S. – Jacob Melanson, a former member of the Truro Bearcats major bantam team, is expected to be a high pick at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.
Melanson, who played for the Weeks Major Midgets in Pictou County last season, is projected to be taken in the second round of the draft, which will be held June 8 in Quebec City.
On Wednesday, QMJHL Central Scouting released its final rankings for the draft.
Melanson, a forward from Amherst, was fifth in Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League scoring last season with 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points in 32 games. He was second among all rookies in scoring behind Riley Kidney of Cole Harbour, who had 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points.
Four Colchester County players also made Central Scouting’s final rankings list.
Goaltender Oliver Arnfast (Valley), defenceman Tanner Greatorex (Truro) and forward Merle Putnam (Masstown) are projected sixth- to eighth-round picks, while forward Sam Archibald (Debert) is projected for rounds nine through 12.
All four players were members of the Weeks Major Midgets last season.
