Timberwolves down Bearcats in Game 3 of MHL final series

MIRAMICHI, N.B. – The Miramichi Timberwolves held serve on Thursday in the Maritime Junior Hockey League championship series.

The Timberwolves skated to a 3-1 victory over the Truro Bearcats at the Miramichi Civic Centre to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven affair.

The home team has won all three games in the series.

The Timberwolves led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Jonny Erbs, on a power play, and Campbell Pickard. Miramichi’s Josh Shatford scored the lone goal of the second period to give the home side a 3-0 advantage after 40 minutes.

G Blackmore notched a power-play goal for the Bearcats at 11:41 of the third for the final score.

Timberwolves goaltender Michael Botiz made 25 saves, while Jason Rioux steered aside 24 shots for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats will try to pull even in Game 4 on Saturday at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre ( 7 p.m.).

Attendance on Thursday was 1,511.
