TRURO, N.S. – The Northern Subway Selects rebounded for a victory on Sunday in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League.
The Selects blasted Dartmouth 9-0, a day after suffering a 5-3 loss to Station Six Fire in a first-place game.
Mariah Linehan had a big game for the Selects on Sunday, scoring a pair and adding three assists. KJ Emery, Landyn Pitts and Ella MacLean each added two goals and Abby MacKenzie had a single.
Goaltender Erin Sullivan, of Salmon River, had the shutout.
On Saturday, the Selects spotted Station Six a 1-0 lead midway through the first period but then roared back with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead in the span of four minutes early in the second period.
The Selects had what they thought was a 4-1 lead, however, the goal was disallowed. That seemed to take the wind out of the sails of the Selects and breathed new life into the Fire, who stormed back with three of their own to take a 4-3 lead at the end of two periods.
Station Six scored 90 seconds into the third to seal the deal. Pitts, Alyssa Fitt and MacKenzie scored for the Selects.
The Selects are off to Toronto this weekend for the Two Nations Cup tournament. They return to league play on Dec. 8 when they will face the Station Six Fire.
