TRURO, N.S. – The Amherst Ramblers jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead and dumped the Truro Bearcats 5-0 on Wednesday in a Maritime Junior Hockey League game at the RECC.

It was Truro’s first loss of the season after two wins. The Bearcats visit the Pictou County Weeks Crushers on Thursday.

Matt Green opened the scoring at 9:28 of the first period. Cole Waugh made it 2-zip at 16:12, while Nick Snow added to the lead just 48 seconds later.

In the second, Green padded the Ramblers lead to 4-0 at 4:10, while Alex Lafreniere rounded out the scoring with a shorthanded marker at 3:31 of the third.

Amherst outshot Truro 36-30. Matt Williams earned the shutout. Myles Hektor started in nets for the Bearcats but was pulled after the first period for Alec MacDonald.

The Bearcats entered the game after cracking the top-10 in the initial CJHL national rankings. Truro checked in at No. 8, while the Yarmouth Mariners appeared on the list at No. 15.
