TRURO, N.S. – The annual Mike Schmitt memorial hockey tournament got underway on Thursday in Truro.

The four-day event features teams in the atom A, AA; peewee A, AAA and the bantam A and AA levels playing games at the Colchester Legion Stadium and Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

The Mike Schmitt event is one of two holiday tournaments being played in Colchester County. The South Colchester Minor Hockey Association in Brookfield is hosting its annual Phil Sears tournament for IP2, IP3, novice development and novice intermediate age groups Dec. 27 and 28 at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.
