Pickard's OT goal lifts Bearcats to victory

TRURO, N.S. – Campbell Pickard’s goal at 4:29 of overtime lifted the Truro Bearcats to a 4-3 Maritime Junior Hockey League victory over the Pictou County Crushers on Thursday.

The Bearcats wrap up the regular season tonight with a home game against the Yarmouth Mariners (RECC, 7 p.m.). Truro hosted the Amherst Ramblers on Friday (visit trurodaily.com for result).

On Thursday, Pickard forced overtime with a power-play goal at 15:56 of the third period in a back-and-forth contest played before a crowd of 821 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

Cameron MacLeod also scored on the power play for the Bearcats, while Alex MacDonald had the other marker. Evan MacLenna, shorthanded, Jacob Hockey and Nicholas Jessome replied for the Crushers.  

Truro led 2-1 after the first period, while teams skated to the third tied 2-2.

Bearcats goaltender Alex MacDonald made 28 saves, while Luke Melanson, a Truro native, stopped 20 shots in the Crushers’ net.
