Halifax Mooseheads defenceman Jocktan Chainey is stepping away from hockey.

The QMJHL team announced it on its Twitter feed Wednesday.

“After receiving offers to play Pro in the ECHL or return to the QMJHL as an OA, Jocktan Chainey has decided to step aside from hockey to focus on his education & career.”

Chainey, who turns 20 on Sept. 8, had just nine points in 32 games in an injury-riddled campaign last season. He added eight points in 22 playoff games.

He was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL draft.
