TRURO, N.S. – The Yarmouth Mariners downed the Truro Bearcats 4-1 on Wednesday in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
It was the first game in a three-games-in-three nights stretch for the Bearcats, who played Thursday in Pictou County and travel to Yarmouth on Friday for a return date with the Mariners.
Yarmouth led 1-0 after one period on Wednesday on a Duncan McKie goal at 17:05. Chris Goreham put the visitors ahead 2-0 at 6:05 of the second, before Gavin Hart of the Bearcats made it rain Teddy Bears with a goal at 16:40 of the middle stanza.
Wednesday marked the annual Bible Hill Kinsmen-Truro Bearcats Teddy Bear Toss, in support of the Christmas Index, and fans were encouraged to throw the stuffed animals on the ice after the first Truro goal was scored. In total, 259 Teddy Bears hit the ice surface.
Aaron Maillet and Logan Timmons scored power-play goals for the Mariners in the third period.
Bearcats goaltender Kevin Resop made 25 saves, while Truro fired 28 shots at Mariners puckstopper Leif Hertz.
