Major Bantam ’Cats improve record to 4-0

TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats swept a pair of weekend games to remain undefeated in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Bearcats doubled the Bedford Barons 4-2 and dropped the Novas 5-2. With the wins, Truro improved to 4-0 and sits tied for top spot with the Gulls.

In the win over the Barons, Sam Archibald led the way with a hat trick, while Jeremiah Martin fired the other goal. Jacob Melanson and Merle Putnam each had two assists and goaltender Oliver Arnsfast picked up the win.

Against the Novas, Melanson netted two goals, while Matthew Hunter, Bryson Currie and Andyn Furmidge fired single markers. Ben Etsell made 13 saves between the pipes.

Melanson, Putnam and Archibald have been hot and are the league’s top three scorers.

Melanson has six goals and nine assists to lead the way, while Putnam has three goals and eight helpers and Archibald six goals and five assists.

The Bearcats next action is Saturday when they host the Wear Well Bombers for a 4 p.m. start at the RECC.
