Major bantam Bearcats win opening game at Ice Jam tournament

BEDFORD, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats major bantam team opened the Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory over the Tri-Pen Ice from Newfoundland.

Philip Ballard and Nicholas Marshall staked the Bearcats to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Christian Reardon scored for the Ice early in the second, however, Nik Xidos found the back of the net for the Bearcats just over a minute later for the game’s final score.

Aiden Tucker, Ben Thompson, Brooke Thomson, Brandon Forbes and Marshall had assists and Cole Desrosiers earned the win between the pipes.

The Bearcats return to action on Thursday, Jan. 10, when they face off against he St. John’s Hitmen at 11:15 a.m. at the BMO Centre. On Friday, Truro meets Dieppe, N.B. at 8:30 p.m.
