Major Bantam Bearcats split weekend games

TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats split a pair of games over the weekend in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Bearcats blasted the Wear Well Bombers 6-0 Saturday before a 2-1 shootout loss to the ACCEL Hawks from Halifax.

Jacob Melanson led the Bearcats in the win with two goals and an assist, while Joseph Mason had a goal and a helper. Sam Archibald, Bryson Currie and Andyn Furmidge also scored and Phillip Ballard had two assists.

Oliver Arnfast stopped all 20 shots he faced for the shutout.

In the loss, Merle Putnam had Truro’s lone goal, assisted by Jeremiah Martin. Bearcats goalie Ben Estell made 36 saves.

It was the first loss of the season for the Bearcats, who sit in second place with a record of 5-0-0-1 for 11 points, one behind the first-place Gulls (6-0-0-0).
