TRURO, N.S. – For the second straight night the Truro Bearcats suffered a one-goal loss to the South Shore Lumberjacks in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

The Lumberjacks eked out a 6-5 victory in overtime on Thursday at the Lunenburg County Lifestyles Centre. On Wednesday, South Shore edged the Bearcats 5-4 at the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre.

McKullen Astill was the biggest Bearcat killer this week, as he notched a hat trick in both games, and scored the overtime winner Thursday just 38 seconds into the five-minute extra frame.

Kyle Sexton had a goal and two assists for the Bearcats. Sexton leads the team in scoring this season with six goals and four assists in 12 games. Shaun Bily, Trey Faulkner, Karter Renouf and Dylan Burton added other goals for Truro, which outshot their hosts 41-32.

The Bearcats led 4-1 early in the second, but let the lead slip away, as the Lumberjacks scored three straight goals in a 12-minute span to end the second period.

Truro hosts the Amherst Ramblers on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Rath-Easlink Community Centre at 7 p.m.
