TRURO, N.S. – Colchester County skaters captured gold medals at the Atlantic Challenge Cup hockey tournament last weekend in Moncton.
Masstown's Lindsey Smith and Bible Hill’s Brayden Schmitt were members of championship Nova Scotia teams.
Smith, a defenceman, was a member of the U18 female team that downed Newfoundland and Labrador 7-3 in the gold medal game. Smith plays for the Northern Subway Selects midget AAA team.
Schmitt, also a blueliner, helped Nova Scotia defeat New Brunswick 8-3 in the U15 male gold medal game. Schmitt is a member of the Truro Bearcats major bantam squad.
New Brunswick won gold in the U16 female and U14 male divisions.
Truro forward Natalie MacKay was a member of Nova Scotia’s U16 female team, which won silver, while Ephram McNutt, of Upper Brookside, played for the U14 male bronze medal-winning team.
