SYDNEY, N.S. — The Cape Breton Eagle signed forward Matthew Gordon on Friday.

The 18-year-old will be an affiliate player for the team and will play this season with the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Gordon, a Mermaid, P.E.I., native, was drafted by the Kitchener Rangers in the third round, No. 58 overall, at the 2017 OHL Priority Selection Draft.

He played 11 games with the Rangers, six of which came during the 2018-19 season, and recorded no points and a minus-three rating.

He spent the majority of last season with the Cambridge Redhawks on the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, posting five goals and two assists for seven points in 19 games.

Gordon attended the Halifax Mooseheads training camp last month but was released by the team.

Gordon is expected to be in the Eagles lineup when they play the Saint John Sea Dogs in their final preseason game on Saturday in Fredericton, N.B.
