Bible Hill’s Atwater helps Scotians sink Elks

BROOKFIELD, N.S. – Liam Atwater of Bible Hill notched a pair of goals to lead the Pictou County Scotians to a 7-5 victory over the Brookfield Elks in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League on Thursday.

Atwater, a Scotians’ affiliate player, scored his first career junior B goal with 2:14 left in the second period to put Pictou County ahead 5-4. He added another late in the third period to seal the win.

Logan Vendermeerakker also notched a pair of goals for the Scotians (17-5-1-3), while Morgan Timmons, Blair Dewtie and Jeremy McFarlane added single markers.

Caelan Blaikie led the Elks with a hat trick and an assist. Jagger Statton had a goal and two assists and Evan Taylor had the other goal for Brookfield, which lost its eighth straight game.

Truro goaltender Blake Meech played the third period for the Scotians.

The Elks played on Friday against the Cumberland County Blues in Springhill. They visit the Sackville Blazers next Wednesday and host the Liverpool Privateers Thursday.
