TRURO, N.S. — Ben Higgins is returning to his roots.
The Truro junior A Bearcats have announced the gritty forward who is from Bible Hill will suit up for the squad this season. Higgins grew up in the Truro minor hockey system.
Most recently, Higgins was a stalwart with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads who fell a win short of claiming the Memorial Cup this spring. He was taken in the seventh round, 121st overall in the QMJHL’s 2015 Entry Draft.
Higgins served with the Mooseheads the last three seasons, amassing 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 189 games. This past campaign, his best point-wise, Higgins had nine goals, 19 assists for28 points and was plus-26.
Before catching on with the Moose, Higgins put in a season with the Bearcats in 2015-16, scoring 13 times and adding 15 assists for 28 points. Prior, he played two seasons with the Truro Bearcats Major Bantams and then a season with Weeks Major Midgets.
A proven scorer and 200-ft. player, Higgins brings a wealth of experience to the Bearcats.
The 20-year-old is expected provide leadership to the team in all areas, through his speed, passion and energy.
