Beaver Brook’s Babineau honoured during first season of pro hockey

TRURO, N.S. – Casey Babineau’s fine defensive play during his first season of pro hockey hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Babineau, from Beaver Brook, was named defenceman of the year for the Adelaide Adrenaline of the Australian Ice hockey League.

The 25-year-old was fourth in team scoring and led all Adelaide defenceman in points this season with six goals and 16 assists in 28 games.

Babineau played four seasons in the Quebec major junior league with the Rimouski Oceanic before playing university hockey with the UPEI Panthers.

Babineau was one of three Maritimers signed by the Adrenaline last April. Cameron Critchlow and Morgan McNeill of P.E.I. were also first-year players this season. Charlottetown’s Cole MacMillan just completed his second season with the Adrenaline.

Critchlow led his team is scoring with 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points in 26 games and was named the AIHL most valuable player.

The Adrenaline finished last in the eight-team AIHL with a 6-18-1-3 record and did not make the playoffs.
