Bearcats fall to Lumberjacks in a shootout

TRURO, N.S. – G Blackmore scored a late third-period goal and the Truro Bearcats earned a single point in a 5-4 shootout loss to the South Shore Lumberjacks on Wednesday in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Blackmore notched his second goal of the game with 44 seconds remaining in regulation to send the contest to overtime. After a scoreless five-minute OT period, the Lumberjacks prevailed in the breakaway competition with Brandon Stone netting the winner in the fourth round.

Shaun Biley had a goal and an assist for the Bearcats, who trailed 1-0 after the first period, but led 3-2 after 40 minutes. Gavin Hart had the other Truro marker.

McKullen Astill scored all three regulation goals for the Lumberjacks.

Bearcats goalie Myles Hektor started the game, however, Alec MacDonald took over in the second.

The Bearcats (7-3-0-0-1) are third in the Eastlink South division, three points ahead of the Lumberjacks (5-5-2-0).

The teams meet again on Thursday in Bridgewater at 7 p.m. On Friday, Truro hosts the Amherst Ramblers for a 7 p.m. start at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
