Bearcats drop third straight to start MHL season

TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats have opened the new Maritime Junior Hockey League season with three straight road losses.

The Bearcats were edged 2-1 by the Amherst Ramblers on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The latest setback came after consecutive losses to the Yarmouth Mariners in Sept. 20 and Sept. 13.

Truro will try to break into the win column on Thursday, Sept. 26 when it visits the rival Pictou County Weeks Crushers.

Amherst 2, Truro 1

The Ramblers grabbed a 1-0 lead at 13:25 of the first period when Caleb Rich struck on the power play. Matt Gordon of the Bearcats scored at 3:19 of the second to tie it 1-1, however, Robbie Burt potted the winner at 12:10.

Amherst goaltender Tyler Caseley made 25 saves and was named the game’s first star. Alec MacDonald steered aside 33 shots for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats play their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 28 against the Valley Wildcats at the RECC, beginning at 7 p.m.
