Second-year goaltender Alec MacDonald is this week’s Bearcat of the Week.
Alec is half the goaltending tandem which will carry a heavy load down the stretch to the end of regular season play.
He’s familiar with the responsibility and among many Bearcat goaltending tandems with his name on the Young – Knickle Award for MHL top goaltending duo. He and Kevin Resop became the 10th Bearcat duo to claim that honour over the last 17 years.
Alec got his hockey start in the Truro minor program through to a two-year stint with the Truro major bantam Bearcats. He followed this with a season of U18 hockey with the Newbridge Academy program. Next up was a year with the Weeks Midgets, which included four games as a call-up with the Moncton Wildcats. Last year, as a rookie Bearcat, he played 12 games, posting a 2.13 GAA and a .920 save percentage. He also had opportunity to show his wares with Moncton.
The 2016 Bearcat territorial and Chicoutimi pick has made 11 appearances this season, coming into the New Year with a 2.86 GAA. He recently played with the Eastlink South all-star team at the Eastern Canada Hockey Challenge.
He and Truro’s other goalie – Myles Hektor – have a huge role to play.
