Truro golfer Watt tied for 12th at amateur men's championship

TRURO, N.S. – Truro’s Robert Watt carded an opening-round 1-over-par 73 Wednesday to lead a local contingent of players at the Nova Scotia amateur men’s golf championship at Oakfield.

Watt, whose round included three birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey, sits tied for 12th, six shots behind leader Stuart Lenehan of Grandview, who shot 5-under 67 yesterday.

Other Truro golfers in the field are Paul Coulson (77), Chris Topshee (78), Robert Jeffcock (78), Cory Pothier (79), Patrick Jackson (81) and Jeff Van Wart (84).

Truro native Tim Hollett, who lives in Fort McMurray, shot 8-over 80.

Ashburn’s Myles Creighton is second after shooting 3-under 69, while clubmate Jordan Ells and Oakfield’s Greg Black are tied for third after opening rounds of 70.
