Banks moves into Top 4 at junior golf tourney


TRURO - Truro's Eric Banks did just what he was hoping Wednesday at the Nova Scotia Golf Association Junior Championship at Eden Golf and Country Club in Paradise.
Banks, 15, fired a 2-over-par 74 in Wednesday's third round to move into a tie for fourth place with Ken Wo's Ally Tidcombe. Both golfers enter today's final round with 225 after 56 holes.
The top four golfers at the event earn spots on the provincial junior team that will compete at nationals later this summer.
Truro' Craig Dale, who entered the day tied for fifth with Banks, slipped into a three-way tie for eighth Wednesday with 78. The 17-year-old is knotted with James Holland and Ryan MacPherson at 229.
Eden's Eric Locke, at 5-over-par, is leading the event by three strokes over Oakfield's Luke Dempsey. Locke shot 77 Wednesday after opening with rounds of 73 and 68. Ashburn's Sean Stuart is third at 224.
Truro's Robert Jeffcock enters today in a tie for 22nd with Hartlen Point's Raymond Doiron. Both golfers hold 236 after 56 holes. Jeffcock carded 71 Wednesday to move up from 51st and claimed the best round of the day.
Truro's Mark Gillis and Brookfield's Cody Locke are in a four-way tie for 40th spot with Antigonish's Dylan Coady and Lost Creek's Corey MacDonald. Those golfers sit at 243.
Truro's James Shapleigh rounds out the Colchester golfers still in the competition in 48th place at 256.
