The Halifax Hurricanes’ struggles continued in Newfoundland.

The Hurricanes lost their third consecutive NBL Canada game and eighth in their last nine, a 109-104 decision to the host St. John’s Edge on Sunday afternoon.

Six Edge players reached double digits in points, led by Junior Cadougan’s team-high 20. Former Hurricane Tyrone Watson added 16 points.

Three players accounted for nearly 75 per cent of the Hurricanes’ scoring. Antoine Mason netted a game-high 29 points, Chris Johnson had 24 and C.J. Washington 22 to go along with 13 rebounds.

Cliff Clinkscales collected nine assists, including his 1,500th of his career.

For the third straight game, the Hurricanes sputtered coming out of halftime. St. John’s scored 36 points in the third quarter to take a nine-point lead into the fourth.

The Hurricanes were outscored 30-18 by Moncton in the third quarter of a 95-88 loss last Sunday. In their next game, London defeated the Hurricanes 112-101 on Tuesday, outscoring Halifax 23-16 in the third.

The teams play again Monday (6:30 p.m. AT) at Mile One Centre. The game was rescheduled from Friday after the state of emergency following last week’s blizzard in St. John’s was extended into the weekend.
