Cougars tame Tigers in high school girls soccer

TRURO, N.S. – In a battle of the big cats, the Cobequid Cougars took down the Hants East Tigers on Thursday in their Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Northumberland region girls’ soccer regular-season finale.

The Cougars grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 3-0 victory at CEC field to lock down first place in the standings.

Cobequid will host the Tigers for a regional semifinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m., and with a victory, will host the regional final on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of the other semifinal match between Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals and Northumberland Nighthawks.

In boys action, CEC completed an undefeated regular season on Oct. 10 after a 3-1 road victory over Hants East.

Deandre Paris, Matt Jones and Gabriel Tremblay scored for the Cougars, who finished with a record of 7-0-1 (W-L-T). Daniel Odafey scored for the Tigers, and CEC led 2-1 at the half.

CEC hosts Hants East again on Oct. 15 in for a regional semifinal game at 3:30 p.m.
