Cougars take regional hoops title

TRURO, N.S. – The Cobequid Cougars captured the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 1 Northumberland region boys high school basketball banner on Thursday.

The Cougars used a well-balanced offensive attack and cruised to an 80-52 victory over the North Nova Gryphons in the regional final at CEC gymnasium.

The Cougars will now set their sights on the eight-team provincial championship tournament March 1 to 3 at Sydney Academy.

Tesean Clyke scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Cougars on Thursday, while Tyree Desmond added 17 points, and Logan Zubrel had 13, including three, three-pointers. Newt Glasgow chipped in 10 points.

Layton Williams of the Gryphons led all scorers with 20 points, while Chris Gillan threw down 16.
