TRURO, N.S. — The Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club is running the two game days aimed at beginners over the next two weeks.
Players in Truro will have coaches on hand to teach beginners the proper game techniques on May 29 at the Local Try Bowls Open House.
This will be followed by a National Bowls Day event in Truro on June 8, one of many across Canada. The club will also run a display at the Farmers Market on June 1.
“Lawn Bowls provide a relaxed social atmosphere and the game is assessable to practically all ages,” said club member Brian Sears in an email. “It is not physically demanding, yet provides a challenge.”
The May 29 open house runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. National Bowls Day on June 8 runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Both game sessions will be at the Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club’s headquarters in the Douglas Street Recreation Centre, on 40 Douglas Street. They can be found at the back of the building.
The first three games are free for new members. The fee for full membership is just $125.00 per season. As well as coffee league games, people can enjoy league evenings and drop-in practice times.
Coffee League games currently run on Mondays and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. The time will switch to 9:30 a.m. in July once the weather warms up.
