TRURO, N.S. – The CEC junior varsity girls volleyball team ran the table to win its third consecutive Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation championship last week in Truro.
The JV Cougars defeated the Parkview Panthers 25-19, 25-13 in the final. In round-robin pool play, CEC earned straight-set wins over Riverview (25-15, 25-8), J. L. Ilsley (25-12, 25-15) and Parkview (25-18, 25-18) to finish first in its pool.
The Cougars faced their toughest test in the semifinal crossover against the Lockview Dragons. CEC won the first set 25-18, however, Lockview played tough in the second set and led by as many as seven points. A strong serving run by CEC’s Maryn McCoombs late in the set allowed the Cougars to take the lead, but Lockview played them point-for-point until the end, with the Cougars winning 26-24.
In the other semifinal, Parkview defeated SAERC in straight sets (25-17, 25-20). Lockview went on capture bronze, defeating SAERC in straight sets (25-16, 25-21) in the third-place match.
