TRURO, N.S.– The Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars built up a big lead in the opening half, and then had to fend off a late surge by the Halifax West Warriors Sunday in NSSAF football action at James MacPherson Stadium.
The Cougard prevailed in the wide-open contest, 44-26.
CEC scored late in the opening quarter to take a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter they went ahead 23-7 before closing out the half with a TD on the final play before the break, and going ahead 30-7.
It was 37-13 heading in to the final quarter but the scrappy Warriors wouldn’t roll over. They made it interesting, coming to within 11 points at 37-26, aided by an interception returned for a touchdown and another major scored after recovering a CEC fumble.
