COLE HARBOUR, N.S. – The Cobequid Cougars will get another shot at the Citadel Phoenix.
Sunday, the Cougars downed Auburn 28-16 in an NSSAF football quarter-final matchup in Cole Harbour to punch their ticket to the semifinals against the Phoenix. That game will be played this Sunday at 1 p.m. at St. Marys University’s Huskies Stadium and the winner there goes on to the finals.
The other semifinal has Sir John A Macdonald facing Dartmouth in Burnside Friday at 7 p.m.
Sunday in Cole Harbour, the Cougars led 14-3 at the half. Running Back Andrew Floyd was a workhorse for CEC, grinding out 117 yards on 20 carries and scoring three majors.
Quarterback Matt Shannon connected on eight of 10 passes for 128 yards and scored a touchdown himself.
Owen Sellers had three catches for 75 yards and a TD and Hayden Payson hauled in three passes for 51 yards.
Kaleb Johnstone was good on four converts.
On defence, defensive back Breton Phillips had four tackles and picked off an Auburn pass that he ran back 80 yards to set up the Cougars’ fourth touchdown.
Linebacker Torro Gabrielli had six tackles, and defensive tackle Ivan Gault had four, as did Shannon at the linebacker position.
