TRURO, N.S. — The formidable Citadel Phoenix visited James MacPherson Stadium Sunday to face the Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars for an NSSAF football matchup. And while they emerged with a 28-7 victory, the Cougars gave them a game and just seven points separated the two squads as they headed into the final quarter.

The Phoenix jumped out to a 14-0 lead by the midway point of the second quarter. However, CEC, assisted by a few Citadel penalties, found themselves first-and-10 from the Phoenix one, when QB Craig Tabor punched it in with 4:58 to play in the half. Caleb Johnstone’s convert attempt was good.

It remained 14-7 throughout the third before Citadel scored a pair of majors in the fourth, for the 28-7 final.

On offence, Cougar Andrew Floyd hauled in five passes for 144 yards and Cam Hunt had three carries for 30 yards.

Defensively, Johnstone had an interception and three tackles for CEC, while Torro Gabrielli recovered a Citadel fumble and also had three tackles. Breton Phillips had five tackles and Ivan Gault and Avery MacPhee had four tackles each.
