CEC basketball team advances to Snowball semifinal

TRURO, N.S. – The Cobequid Cougars varsity boys’ team made a semifinal at the 49th annual Snowball basketball tournament at CEC last weekend.

The Cougars went 1-1 in the round-robin, before suffering an 82-62 semifinal loss to Bernice MacNaughton from Moncton. Ethan Dahr was CEC’s player of the game in the semifinal contest.

In preliminary action, the Cougars opened with a 90-70 win over the Riverview Royals on Friday afternoon, before an 89-84 setback to CP Allen. Newt Glasgow and Daryen Reddick were CEC’s players of the game.

Bernice MacNaughton got past CP Allen in the final to win the banner.

Meanwhile, the CEC girls’ varsity team went 2-1 and finished third at the Bill Dompierre tournament​ at Lockview in Fall River.

The Cougars lost 61-50 to CP Allen and earned a 76-52 victory over Hants East, before winning a 45-43 barn-burner against North Nova.

Game MVP awards went to Mattie Greatorex, Leah Adams and Frankie Sylliboy. Adams was a tournament all-star.
