CCAA badminton championships underway in Bible Hill

BIBLE HILL, N.S. – The team of Michelle Doane and Sarah Pepperdine opened the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association badminton championship on Thursday with a victory.

Doane and Pepperdine – of the host Dal AC Rams – defeated Mount Allison’s Isabelle Choumiline and Maddy Morrissey in three sets (15-21, 23-21, 21-17).

The local duo later lost to Kaylee Morris and Kassidy Turcotte of the Concordia Thunder of Edmonton in straight sets (8-21, 15-21).

In men’s doubles action, the Dal AC team of Andrew Systma and Tim Trites dropped a pair of matches. They lost to Bryce Mason and Benn Van Ryn of the Kings Blue Devils (7-21, 7-21) and later fell to John Li and Tyler Walsh of NAIT Ooks (12-21, 9-21).

Action at the Langille Athletic Centre continues Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
