Brookfield’s Stephen Locke wins #GolfBeattieStrong title

TRURO – Brookfield golfer Stephen Locke has his first senior championship after shooting a 71 on Friday at his home Truro Golf Club to claim the 2017 #GolfBeattieStrong title.

Locke had a three-round total of 218 for a five-stroke lead over fellow Truro Golf Club member Nelson Thompson. Thompson carded 72 on Friday for a three-round tally of 223.
That was followed closely by Avon Valley’s Dean Woodman who shot 73 on Friday for a total of 224.
Competitors were vying for a spot to represent Nova Scotia at the 2017 Canadian men’s senior championship. The top three will travel to the Kanawkai Golf Club in Montreal from Sept. 11-14 to compete in the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship.
#GolfBeattieStrong is a hashtag to help create awareness for brain cancer research.
NSGA president Garry Beattie is battling glioblastoma, which is a malignant brain tumour. He has been fighting his brain tumor since being diagnosed in 2015.
Beattie, 54, has set his sights on competing in the 2018 #GolfBeattieStrong senior championship at the Avon Valley Golf Club.
