TRURO, N.S. – Cole Sellers took home a piece of individual hardware from the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League championship tournament last weekend.
Sellers, a defenceman for Pictou County’s Wear Well Bombers, was named to the all-star team. The 14-year-old from Bible Hill collected four assists in four tournament games for the Bombers, who posted a 1-1-2 record at the seven-team championship.
Cole is a Grade 9 student at Bible Hill Junior High School.
Other first-team all-stars included defenceman Ryan Hopkins, (South Shore); forwards Reece Allen (Cape Breton), Luke Woodworth (South Shore) and Joseph Henneberry (Halifax) and goaltender Lucas Fraser (Cape Breton).
The tournament MVP was Lucas Canning of the Bombers, while teammate Thomas Gariepy was named the top goaltender. The top forward was Jacob Newcombe of the Gulls, while Jake Furlong, also of the Gulls, was the top blueliner.
Individual awards were based on round-robin play.
The Gulls, based in St. Margarets Bay, won the provincial championship. They posted an undefeated record of 5-0-1 and edged ACCEL Physio (Halifax) 2-1 in overtime in the final.
The Truro Bearcats were ousted by the Joneljim Cougars of Cape Breton in a playoff series and didn’t advance to the provincial tournament.
