Bearcats fall to Crushers, lose third straight

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats lost their third straight Maritime Junior Hockey League game on Thursday.

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers scored two goals 17 seconds apart early in the first period and never looked back in an 8-5 win over the Bearcats at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

It was also the second straight victory for Pictou County against Truro, coming after a 5-3 triumph last Saturday.

Evan MacLennan scored at 5:21 of the first before Malcolm MacEachern beat Bearcats goaltender Myles Hektor at 5:38 to stake the home side to an early 2-0 lead.

Pictou County led 3-2 after the opening period and 6-3 after 40 minutes.

Kevin Mason and Dylan Riley, with two each, Aiden Hickey and Jacob Hickey scored other goals for the Crushers, who have won four straight games and seven of their past nine.

Bearcats captain Dylan Burton had a goal and three assists, while Curtis Heffernan, G Blackmore, Kyle Sexton and Gavin Hart added other Truro goals.

Hektor faced 28 shots, while the Bearcats fired 38 shots at Crushers goaltender Matthew Normore.

The Bearcats host the Valley Wildcats on Saturday at the RECC, beginning at 7 p.m.
