Bearcats end three-game losing streak

TRURO, N.S. – The Truro Bearcats snapped a three-game losing skid with a 3-1 Maritime Junior Hockey League victory over the Valley Wildcats on Saturday.

Karter Renouf, Shaun Bily and Gavin Hart scored for the Bearcats, who improved their record to 16-10-1-0-2 for 34 points and third place in the Eastlink South Division.

Lauchie MacDonald added two assists and Bearcats goaltender Myles Hektor made 26 saves to earn first star of the game honours.

Tommy Roger had the lone for the Wildcats, while Masstown defenceman and team captain Cameron Allaby drew an assist on the marker.

Truro led 1-0 after the first and 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Attendance at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre was 707.

Allaby was one of three Colchester County players on the Wildcats roster Saturday, along with Riley MacInnis of Bible Hill and backup goaltender Brent Walters of Brookfield.  

Prior to the game, Bearcats forward Luke Macmillan received the Bob Boucher Hockey Assistance Fund Scholarship for the 2017-18 season valued at $1,500.

The fund is named after the late coach and executive who, prior to his death in 2004, worked at levels ranging from Nova Scotia Intermediate to the NHL over the course of his long career. It was established six years ago by a number Boucher’s former players as a means to support students within the game who have displayed exceptional scholastic achievements.
