TRURO, N.S. – Truro Bearcats star forward Campbell Pickard will play for the Dalhousie Tigers university hockey team next season.
Tigers head coach Chris Donnelly, a former Bearcats assistant coach, announced Pickard’s commitment to play with the Halifax-based university on Monday.
“He combines intelligent play with an outstanding work ethic that will fit well into our style of play,” said Donnelly. “We look forward to having his leadership abilities mesh into our dressing room.”
Pickard, six-foot-two, 182 pounds, joins the Tigers after four seasons between the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and the Maritime Hockey League (MHL). He started his junior career with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in 2013-14, but spent most of that year with the Bridgewater Lumberjacks (MHL). After 10 games in 2014-15, he joined the Acadie-Bathurst Titan where he stayed until midway through the 2015-16 season and ended the year with the Moncton Wildcats.
Pickard, a centre, played for the MHL’s Miramichi Timberwolves in 2016-17 before finishing his junior career with the Bearcats this past season. He amassed a team-high 69 points in 50 games this year, scoring 34 goals and 35 assists, and finished fourth in league scoring.
The Bearcats captain was named a MHL all-star this season and earned the prestigious Character Player of the Year award for his leadership on and off the ice.
“I am extremely honoured to be coming to Dalhousie,” said Pickard. “I’m excited to be playing with the Tigers.”
The Halifax native graduated from Halifax West High School with honours in 2015. He will begin his pursuit of a Bachelor Commerce Co-op in September.
