A couple of members of the St. John’s Edge were named to National Basketball League of Canada all-star teams over the weekend.
Dez Lee was selected to the league’s all-defensive squad, while Jared Nickens was a choice for the all-rookie team.
Lee averaged nearly 16 points and more than seven rebounds per game and was the most dependable two-way player for the Edge, who went all the way to the NBL Canada final, where they were swept earlier this month by the Moncton Magic.
While Lee was cited for his defensive work, Nickens’ selection as an all-rookie was certainly because of his offensive abilities, especially as a three-point shooter.
The New Jersey native averaged 7.4 points per game and shot 38.5 per cent on three-pointers, launching 299 attempts from long range, more than anyone else on St. John’s.
