Tide claims peewee/bantam baseball title

TRURO, N.S. – The Masstown Hardware Tide are champions of the Bible Hill-Truro Minor Baseball Association’s peewee/bantam division.

The Masstown Hardware Tide scored a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays in the deciding game in a best-of-three peewee/bantam division final series. Members of the Tide are, front row, from left, Colby Spencer, Bryan Spence, Tim Porter, Cameron Myatt and Marion Porter. Second row, head coach Mike Spencer, Damian Howell, Michael Peters, Andrew Totten, Elijah Stewart, Zachary Dykstra, Carter Davis, Cole Turner and assistant coaches Paul Spence and Alex Peters. Absent are Kohl Lockhart and assistant coach Derrick Lockhart.

There were some anxious moments during the championship game.

The Tide rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win a thrilling final game against the Blue Jays on Monday in front of a crowd of more than 200 at Stanfield’s diamond.

The Tide won the best-of-three championship series 2-1.

The Blue Jays trailed 4-2, but scored four times in the top of the sixth inning on a Will Bowers grand slam for a 6-4 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tide cut the lead to one, before Cole Turner stroked a game-tying RBI single. Damian Howell followed with a single to score Zachary Dykstra for the winning run.

Michael Peters went 2-for-2 for the Tide in the final, while Bryan Spence went 2-for-3 and Carter Davis worked three walks.

For the Blue Jays, Gage Pratt and Connor Whooten each went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

Michael Peters and Bryan Spence pitched for the Tide, while Jake MacDonald and Pratt took the hill for the Blue Jays.
