The Bearcats defeated the Kentville Wildcats 6-4 on Tuesday to pick up their first victory of the season in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League.
Truro went winless through its first 13 games of the season before breaking through against the Wildcats (3-9) at the TAAC Grounds.
Trailing 1-0, the Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning for a one-run lead. Truro added three more in the seventh for a 5-1 advantage.
The Wildcats, however, made it interesting with three in the top of the eighth, before the Bearcats added an insurance run in the bottom half for the final score.
Matt Mingo singled and drove in three runs for the Bearcats, while Darson Murphy tripled and had two RBI. Adam Lombard singled and drove in a run and John Chapman doubled.
Alex Ostrov swatted two doubles and drove in two runs for the Wildcats, while Dryden Schofield had two singles and two RBI.
Chapman was the winning pitcher and Dan Bates earned the save. Codey Shrider suffered the loss.
Hits were even at eight apiece.
The teams meet again on Friday in Truro for a 7:30 p.m. opening pitch.
