TRURO, N.S. — The Acadian Games launched in Truro Friday as hundreds of student athletes flocked into town from all corners of Nova Scotia.
After the opening ceremony Friday, which saw roughly 900 students celebrate the sporting festival's start, athletes began their tournaments in handball, track and field and mountain biking, among other sports on offer.
The École acadienne de Truro won their second handball game of the evening 10-7 against Sydney.
The best teams from the Truro tourney will compete at the Jeux de l'Acadie in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, from June 27 to July 1.
