It’s good to see all the politicians jump on the climate change bandwagon. What happens now, after the election, is another story.

The use of fossil fuels, a contributor to global warming, has always been an issue in one way or another. But we mustn’t forget other practices that feed into the ever-developing environmental destruction of our planet. To name a few: strip mining, clearcutting, fracking, disposing of effluents in our life-sustaining waters, etc. I could go on, but, truthfully, it comes down to mankind’s greed and ignorance.

Although I believe global warming is cyclical, I also believe that human action is the major factor in speeding up the process. We may be able to slow it down, but we can't stop it.

But I don’t believe additional taxes are the way to stop it, because no matter how much tax you pay, the money will always go elsewhere, not where it’s needed most. It takes more than just a tax to promote environmental change. It also requires a change in mentality.

Major changes must be made, and sooner rather than later.

Roy Davis, Lantz
