REID, Robert Cecil Jr., “Bob” – 83, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and support of his family, on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, following a lengthy illness with ALS that he faced with courage and strength. Born in Brule, he was a son of the late Robert Sr. and Anna (Redmond) Reid. Bob was employed with Department of Transportation for 35 years with the steel bridge division and was the owner of Robert Reid Enterprises Ltd. of North River. He was a very proud man with a high work ethic and treated people with respect. He loved working on his trucks and heavy equipment and also had a soft spot in his heart for animals. Bob is survived by his long-time soulmate and loving wife of 63 years, Jean (MacKay); children, Eugene, Fall River; Kim (Kirby) Patton, Greenfield; Carla Reid, Lower Onslow; grandchildren, Crystal (Shane) Gordon, Princeport; Bruce (Denise) Reid, Edmonton, Alberta; Kyle Patton, Greenfield; Amanda Morrisey, Airdrie, Alberta; great grandson, Graisen Gordon; siblings, Jean (Eddy) Dufrat, Edmonton, Alberta; John Reid, Truro; Donald Reid, Truro; Diane Robertson, Bedford; Barb (Elroy) Langille, North River; Edison Reid (Laurena Yurkowski), Brule; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Dad’s caregiver, Winnie, and to Dr. Donald Rowe for their outstanding care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bob’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019. As per Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. If so desired, donations in Bob’s memory to the ALS Society of NB & NS or Colchester SPCA are welcomed.
