Patricia Mackay
MacKay, Patricia, Bible Hill. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Patricia MacKay, at the age of 91 years on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Mum was born in Chiswick of London England on July 25, 1926 to the late John William and Nellie (James) (Nichol) (Knight) James. During WWII she met a handsome Canadian who was in the army and they were married Feb. 16, 1946. Dad returned to Canada and mum was to join him later. They lived in Debert, NS where they had a daughter (Dianne). Mum was homesick and missed her mother and brothers, so dad sent her back to England with Dianne for a vacation in August 1947. Dad knew mum was homesick so he sold everything and joined mum. They had two sons John and Raymond while they were there and they all returned to Truro, NS on Dec. 5, 1958. Mum is survived by her children Dianne (Wayne) Shearer, John (Lynn) and Raymond (Darlene); grandchildren, April (Trevor), Tracy (Greg), Jason, Ricky (Kimberley); great-grandchildren, Dylan, Daniel, Alisha, Cole, Jayden, Andy, Boston and Joslyn. Mum had many nieces and nephews in Canada and England who she loved. She loved Canada but always had a special love for England. Besides her parents, mum was predeceased by her brothers John (Gladys), Roy (Mabel), Tom (Nellie) (Phyllis). Arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, from where visitation will take place on Friday from 6-8 pm and where funeral service will take place Saturday at 1 pm. Reverend Connie Stewart will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of CEHHC, Truro, or to the Bible Hill Cemetery. We would like to thank the VON (Staff) and also the Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Henderson and also Lisa Weatherbee. Also to her special care givers, Kathy, Bonnie and Shirley. Mum’s wishes were to stay in her home and not to go to a nursing home. With our help and the help of these special people we were able to keep her at home. Our hearts are broken. Heaven has gained a special angel, but we have lost our special angel. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Patricia’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
