Evangeline “Vangie” Mary Margaret Hatfield

Evangeline “Vangie” Mary Margaret Hatfield
“I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back. This is hard, but I was a lucky woman who led a lucky life, and for this, I am grateful.” Vangie - 73, Truro, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2019 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. She was born in Monastery, N.S. to the late Michael and Florence (MacDonald) Grant. Vangie was a kind, smart, strong-willed woman who adored her family. Her concern was always for the well-being and activities of her family, above her own. She was always up for a party and she had a sharp sense of humor. She never emailed anyone, always preferring to “talk”, that was her gift. She was employed at the Department of Natural Resources for twenty-three years, finishing her career at the Bible Hill office. She volunteered for several organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion dinners. She loved to go for walks, until a stroke made it difficult. She thought of herself as an avid gardener! She was among the first patients transferred into the new Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Vangie is survived by her loving husband, Carmen; sons Edward (Tara) of Halifax and Gregory (Suzanne) of Truro. She will miss seeing her sweet grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Matthew and Alexander. Nana-Woosh wishes for you to grow up to be the incredible people you are meant to be! She is also survived by sisters, Katherine Punch, Marie MacDonald both of Monastery, Lorna Chisholm of Guysborough; foster brother, David MacEachern of Dartmouth; nephew, Donnie McNutt of Monastery as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and many friends. You have all been precious to her. Knowing and loving each one of you was a big piece of the success story of her life. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and Bill. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers throughout the years such as VON, Continuing Care and the staff of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. A visitation was held on Sunday, April 14th in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with a Celebration of Christian Burial being held on Monday, April 15th in the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro with Father Dariusz Miskowisz officiating. Donations in Evangeline’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada or charity of choice.
