Donald Leroy “Donnie” Stevens
79, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Percy and Jean (Belmore) Stevens. Donnie was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. He started his career with Moffatt’s Moving and Storage and then worked at Polymer and Sobeys. An avid hockey fan, he played regularly in the 1950s and continued his passion by watching hockey and cheering on his favourite team, although he never told us what team that was! He also enjoyed fishing and participating in the Brookfield Big Game Hunt. Donnie was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie (MacGregor); children, Michael (Janice) Stevens, Hilden; Sandra Starratt (Jeff Service), Lower Onslow; Nancy (Myron) Upham, Upper North River; Brian Stevens (Dina Virlas), Jasper, Alberta; grandchildren, Nicholas, Charles, Emma Jean, Matthew, Colby, Jessie, Emma-Leigh, Ryan, Max, Gabrielle, Isabelle; great grandchildren, Sage and Olivia; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Bogle, Stewiacke; Alfred Wallace, Grand Lake; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Wallace, Helen Bogle; brothers, Arnold Stevens, Aubrey (Eva) Stevens, Roland Stevens. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father Cristinel Fartadi officiated. Interment at a later date in Watson Cemetery. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre (Dialysis Unit and Palliative Care Unit), Colchester East Hants Hospice Society, VON caregivers and to Dr. Bruce Phillips.
