Constance Mildred Pelley – 87, passed away at The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro, Nova Scotia on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Born and raised in Montréal, Québec, Connie was the youngest child of British immigrants, Arthur and Lillian (Hoare) Bennett. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Don Pelley, and two years later gave birth to their daughter, Janet. In 1970, the family moved to Halifax, Don’s hometown, and settled in Bedford. A wonderful listener, Connie touched many lives and will be remembered for her knitted afghans, delicious cakes, and, most of all, for her gentleness, compassion, and sound advice. Her daughter could not have wished for a better mother and friend. Predeceased by her parents, nine siblings, and husband, Connie is survived by her daughter Janet Pelley, brother-in-law Bill Kohler, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Irene Brunet, Patti Collette, Barbara Hastings, Peter Kohler, Sandra Schwartz, Lynne Warman, and their families. My heartfelt thanks to Mum’s friends and neighbours for your kind support, which helped her stay in her beloved house after Dad’s passing in 2011 and her health began to fail. Following her move to Truro in 2016 to be with me, Mum and I received help from many caring health care professionals – the Seniors Clinic team, home care workers, paramedics, health care teams at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, and the sensitive and caring staff at Valley View Villa and The Mira Long Term Care Centre. Thank you all for your skill and compassion. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Bedford Presbyterian Church with Rev. Don Codling officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bedford Presbyterian Church, Colchester-East Hants Public Library Foundation or a charity of choice would be welcome.
