Catherine Mary Giles

GILES, Catherine Mary (Eige), Truro. Kitty, as she was known to everyone, passed away peacefully January 13, 2020 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care Centre in Truro, Nova Scotia. Born in Mimico (Toronto) in 1932, Kitty spent her adult life in numerous communities across southern Ontario and Montreal, settling in Nova Scotia to enjoy Ed’s YMCA retirement and their golden years, closer to many of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her knitting, crocheting skills and baking pies, butter tarts and her infamous Queen Elizabeth cakes. She was so very generous with her time, talents, volunteering and sharing her knitting and crocheting projects with child cares, churches and hospitals. She and Ed became Square and Round Dance callers, calling, twirling and sharing their love, knowledge and friendship to all they met around southern Ontario and Nova Scotia. She is survived by her husband and life partner of 67 years, Ed. She will be remembered and greatly missed by daughters, Janet Giles, Sherwood Park, AB and Linda (Graham Geddes), Truro; sons, Ken (Debi), Stillwater Lake, NS, John (Kathy), London, ON and Robert (Susan), Truro; grandchildren, Rebecca (Geoff), Jeff (Lyndsay), Pamela, Sandra (Shane), Branigan (Chris), Keegan, Kaleigh, Jordan, Daniel, and Zachary; step grandchildren, Darren, Jessica, Jake, Lindsay and Justin; great-grandchildren Jessica, Julia, Olivia, Robbie, Aaron, Isabelle, Sieanna and Lux; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Eige and Hazel Giles, ON; step-brother, Harry Schueneman, ON.; and lastly numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Kitty was predeceased by her parents, Clifford Eige and Mary Madden (Gray); siblings, Jimmy, Clifford (Bud), Dora Batten, ON, sister-in-law, Bernice Small and brothers-in-law, George and Ern, ON. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home on Friday January 17, 2020 from 3-5 pm. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing or one of the family’s favourite charities – Alzheimer, Cancer or MS Societies or YMCA. We would like to thank the staff at Cedarstone for all of their love, patience and care of Mom.
