Matt Gayle and Morton Doughty were surprised to find themselves first in line when they showed up outside of the NSLC store on Court St. Wednesday morning.
They showed up around 8 a.m., expecting to see a queue had already formed.
“It was pretty surprising to see there was no one else here,” said Gayle, who recently moved to Truro from Edmonton.
“I want to browse what they have, and see the packaging. It’ll be a lot different than seeing it packaged in tin foil.
“I didn’t think this would be legal in my lifetime.”
He said after he makes a purchase he’ll probably head home for a smoke.
“I hope it’s good stuff,” he added.
Morton Doughty, who moved to Truro, from St John, three weeks ago, said marijuana helps him with mental health issues.
“This has been a long time coming,” he said.
“The prices sound reasonable, so I’d tell people to enjoy the legalization, but don’t go out and drive after using it. Use, but don’t abuse
Jon Richard, moved to Truro from St. John, about a year ago, was the third person to show up. He hadn’t met Gayle and Doughty before, but within a few minutes they were sharing laughs and stories as they waited outside the store.
By the time the store opened, at 10 a.m., about 35 people had joined the queue.
