TRURO, N.S. — TRURO, N.S. — A 22-year-old Truro man was released on bail on Monday after being arrested for weapons-related offences following a standoff with police last Thursday afternoon.

Colby Daniel Scott Smith was released on a $2,500 surety posted by his girlfriend. He is to appear in court Sept. 4 to enter pleas on six weapons-related charges as well as a charge of taking a motor vehicle without consent and two counts of breaching court recognizances.

He is also to enter a plea at that time to a charge of assaulting a woman dating to Nov. 16, 2018, in Brookfield.

Smith was arrested Thursday afternoon (July 4) at a Lavinia Drive residence following a standoff with the Truro Police and heavily armed members of the provincial Emergency Response Team.

Access points to the area were blocked by police vehicles as officers turned back motorists driving along Kaulback Street. Some people were temporarily moved out of their homes while others were told not to go outside and to keep away from windows.

As part of his release conditions, Smith is not to leave his Scenic Drive residence unless in the company of his surety, must keep the peace and be of good behaviour and he is not to possess or consume alcohol or illicit drugs. Smith was also ordered not to possess any firearms or other weapons, he cannot be in the driver’s seat of any conveyance and is to remain away from the Circle K Irving on Willow Street.
